Hey there!
It's a snowy day in Colorado, and I've spent the day tinkering online, checking on my first "wide" book launch, tracking all the things like a mouse gathering crumbs and shoving them into my mouth pockets. I'm not sure what to do with all this information, as it's day one of my new enterprise... but that doesn't keep me hitting that refresh button!
For the uninitiated, a "wide" release is when a book is available on all book retailers and in libraries as opposed to being exclusive to Amazon in their "Select" program. It's a steeper hill to climb, but it releases me from the risks and pitfalls of being exclusive with Amazon where they really don't seem to take much care at all when it comes to their authors. This being a new pen name *and* being wide on platforms where I have no absolutely following has been scary, guys.
Like... scary.
I've given up the comfort and relative surety of the built-in book promotion machine that is Amazon, and I am braving the wilds with my first release today. As scary as it's been, it's also really awesome, because I've wanted to do this for years but never felt like the time was right.
Not that I'm sure the time now is actually right... but I'm tired of sitting in this waiting place. That's not me, and now... that bell's been rung! Yay!
Another thing that I've wanted to do for a long time is change the way I interact online. Over the past few years, I have heard from many, many of my readers who shared that they were leaving facebook. Some are still on Instagram, some are off social completely. This is great choice, but then how can I maintain a connection? Aside from my email newsletters, what can I do to cultivate a connection that is not dependent on anyone else's real estate?
Well, here you are... I've decided to start blogging again. Not sure how often I will do it, or what it will look like, or if anyone at all will join me here to read what I share, but it's important to me that I try.
I hope you'll come along on whatever this becomes...
